Northstar Bison — one of the makers you'll find here on MNFood.Club — shared something recently that we thought deserved more than a social post. It's the story of how their raw bison pet blend came to exist. We're sharing it here with their blessing.

Bella: A Legacy of Loyalty, Longevity, and Love
July 30, 2025
Today, with heavy hearts, we said goodbye to a beloved member of the Northstar Bison family, our original ranch dog, Bella.
Bella passed peacefully this week at the remarkable age of 18. For a blue heeler and black lab mix, that’s an extraordinary lifespan, but anyone who knew Bella wouldn’t be surprised. Her life was full of purpose, joy, and connection with the land, people, and sticks she loyally watched over.
If you’ve ever visited the ranch, there’s a 1 in 1 chance Bella was the first to greet you, with a stick. Friendly but observant, watchful yet welcoming, she was everything a ranch dog should be; devoted, instinctual, and ever-present... with a stick. Kids adored her. Adults were endeared by her warm, calm, confident welcome. She had a way of quietly weaving herself into lives and, unknowingly, impacting so many through Northstar.
"Bella was the original inspiration behind our raw bison pet food blend, not because we ever thought we'd be selling pet food, but because we wanted her to be the healthiest and happiest she could possibly be and felt we had all the ingredients needed to make that happen."
The results were undeniable. Bella thrived from the beginning. And she soon developed a habit of carrying her bowl around for an hour after feeding, occasionally stopping and licking, as if to savor the memory of the meal she just had. Bella's diet eventually triggered a thought that other pets needed this product as well. Our Raw Bison Pet Blend would become the standard we would offer to customers looking to feed their pets with that same level of care.
She became our first proof point: vibrant, strong, sharp-minded, and active well into her senior years. Zero tumors, zero complications, merely a life well-lived and a mind and body that aged gracefully (thought she was deaf as a hammer her last year or so).
She wasn’t just a dog to us. She was a partner, a protector, a tester of trails and keeper of hearts, a constant no matter the weather or season, she was just there. Her legacy lives on, not only in our memories, but in the healthy pets now thriving because of her life well lived.
We’ll miss her. The soft shuffle of paws across the kitchen floor, the loyal eyes, the gentle yet relentless nudge to go do something outside (actually probably just wanted a stick). We’re grateful for the years we had with her and the mark she left on our hearts and her legacy that lives on.
Thank you, Bella, for everything. Your life was a gift.
